Seven items sit on the lunch menu. Six carry a fixed price; the Soup and Salad Combo prices off whatever you build it from, which is why it shows as choice-based rather than a number we invented.

The 4pm Rule Is the Whole Point

Outback puts it on the menu in one line: Comes with choice of freshly made steakhouse side (excluding Soup & Salad combo). Available until 4pm, Monday-Friday.

Monday to Friday, until four in the afternoon. Not lunchtime in the loose sense, not until three, and not at the weekend. That last part is what catches people, because the restaurant opens at the same hour on a Saturday as it does on a Tuesday and nothing on the door tells you the pricing changed.

We did not take the time on trust. Pull the ordering menu after four on a weekday and the Lunch section is not greyed out or marked unavailable - it is not in the data at all. An earlier capture of the same restaurant in the evening came back with nineteen categories and no Lunch among them.

What the Side Actually Costs You

Every lunch plate includes one freshly made side, and that is where the real value sits. Order the same side on its own at dinner and it is $3.99. Not every side is included, though - the menu splits into two tiers, and the second one is an upgrade you pay the difference on.

A soup or a side salad is the other upgrade route. Those run $4.99 to $5.99depending on which one, and on a $12.99 plate that is a meaningful share of the bill.

Which Lunch Plate Is Actually Worth It

The 6oz Center-Cut Sirloin at $14.99 is the one to know about. It is the cheapest way to eat a steak at Outback, it comes with a side, and the same cut off the dinner menu costs more for the same six ounces. If you were going to order a steak anyway, the lunch window is worth planning around.

The Alice Springs Chicken at $14.99 is the same price and a much larger plate of food - chicken, mushrooms, bacon and cheese - but it is 440 calories against the sirloin's 330. Same money, different meal.

At the other end, the Grilled Chicken on the Barbie at $12.99 is the lightest thing on the menu at 240 calories and the cheapest fixed-price plate. It is a plain grilled breast with barbecue sauce and a side, and it is honest about that.

Adding an Appetizer Changes the Maths

A lunch plate plus a Bloomin' Onion is more than two lunch plates. That is worth saying out loud, because the appetizer menu does not change at lunch and the prices on it were built for a dinner bill.

The Three Cheese Spinach Dip at $7.99 is the only one that sits below the cheapest lunch plate. Everything else costs more than the food you came in for.
